को ऽसौ पर्वतसङ्काशः किरीटी हरिलोचनः ।
लङ्कायां दृश्यते वीर सविद्युदिव तोयदः ॥६-६१-५॥
ko 'sau parvatasaṅkāśaḥ kirīṭī harilocanaḥ |
laṅkāyāṃ dṛśyate vīra savidyudiva toyadaḥ ॥6-61-5॥
Translation
O Hero! Who is this being, vast as a mountain, wearing a diadem and having yellowish eyes, who appears like a rain-cloud accompanied by lightning?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वीर! लंका में दिखाई देने वाला यह पर्वत के समान विशाल, मुकुटधारी और पीली आँखों वाला कौन है, जो बिजली चमकते हुए मेघ के समान लग रहा है?
English Commentary
Shri Rama describes the specific physical traits of Kumbhakarna. The term 'Harilochanah' (yellowish or tawny eyes) hints at his ferocity and demonic power. The comparison to a cloud with lightning captures the contrast between his dark complexion and his shining golden ornaments. Shri Rama's inquiry is not just curiosity but the beginning of a tactical analysis of the foe.
