ततो गत्वा वयं युद्धं दास्यामस्तस्य यत्नतः ।
जेष्यामो यदि ते शत्रून्नोपायैः कृत्यमस्ति नः ॥६-६४-२३॥
tatō gatvā vayaṃ yuddhaṃ dāsyāmastasya yatnataḥ |
jēṣyāmō yadi tē śatrūnnōpāyaiḥ kṛtyamasti naḥ ॥6-64-23॥
Translation
Thereafter, we shall go and fight them with all our effort. If we happen to actually conquer your enemies, then there will be no need for further stratagems.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसके बाद हम युद्धभूमि में जाकर प्रयत्नपूर्वक उनसे युद्ध करेंगे। यदि हम वास्तव में आपके शत्रुओं को जीत लेते हैं, तो फिर किसी अन्य उपाय की आवश्यकता ही नहीं होगी।
English Commentary
Mahodara presents an initial option: actual combat. He claims that if they win, the matter is settled. However, he is fully aware of the low probability of victory, so he is merely setting the stage for his secondary, more sinister plot involving deceit. His cunning lies in preparing a backup plan of theater for the eventuality of failure.

महोदर यहाँ एक विकल्प दे रहा है—वास्तविक युद्ध। वह कहता है कि यदि हम जीत गए तो सब ठीक है। किन्तु वह जानता है कि जीतना कठिन है, इसलिए वह अपने असली कुटिल 'प्लान बी' की ओर बढ़ने का मार्ग प्रशस्त कर रहा है। यह उसकी धूर्तता का प्रमाण है कि वह हार की स्थिति के लिए पहले से ही एक नाटक तैयार कर चुका है।
