यांस्तु धर्मार्थकामांस्त्वं ब्रवीषि पृथगाश्रयान् ।
अनुबोद्धुं स्वभावे तान्नहि लक्षणमस्ति ते ॥६-६४-६॥
yāṃstu dharmārthakāmāṃstvaṃ bravīṣi pṛthagāśrayān |
anuboddhuṃ svabhāve tānnahi lakṣaṇamasti te ॥6-64-6॥
Translation
Regarding the distinct aspects of Dharma, Artha, and Kama that you speak of, there is no sign in your nature that you truly understand their essence.

तुम धर्म, अर्थ और काम के जिन अलग-अलग आश्रयों की बातें कर रहे हो, तुम्हारे स्वभाव में उन्हें गहराई से समझने का कोई लक्षण दिखाई नहीं देता।
English Commentary
Kumbhakarna had previously lectured on the balance of the three goals of life (Dharma, Artha, and Kama). Mahodara dismisses this, claiming Kumbhakarna lacks the philosophical depth to grasp these concepts. He tries to confine Kumbhakarna to the role of a mere soldier, excluding him from the intellectual deliberations of state policy.

कुम्भकर्ण ने इससे पूर्व धर्म, अर्थ और काम के संतुलन पर व्याख्यान दिया था। महोदर उसे चुनौती देते हुए कहता है कि कुम्भकर्ण इन विषयों को समझने के योग्य ही नहीं है। यहाँ 'त्रिवर्ग' (धर्म, अर्थ, काम) की दार्शनिक चर्चा हो रही है। महोदर का तर्क है कि कुम्भकर्ण केवल एक योद्धा है और उसे राजधर्म की सूक्ष्मताओं में हस्तक्षेप नहीं करना चाहिए।
