राजशेषा कृता लङ्का क्षीणः कोशो बलं हतम् ।
राजानमिममासाद्य सुहृच्चिह्नममित्रकम् ॥६-६५-७॥
rājaśeṣā kṛtā laṅkā kṣīṇaḥ kośo balaṃ hatam |
rājānamimamāsādya suhṛccihnamamitrakam ॥6-65-7॥
Translation
Having obtained this King, you, who are enemies with the appearance of friends, have reduced Lanka to a state where only the King remains; the treasury is depleted, and the army is destroyed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मित्र के वेश में (छिपे हुए) शत्रु रूपी तुम लोगों को पाकर इस राजा (रावण) की लंका में अब केवल राजा ही शेष रह गया है (बाकी सब नष्ट हो गया), खजाना खाली हो गया है और सेना मारी गई है।
English Commentary
The ultimate betrayal. Kumbhakarna accuses the ministers of being 'amitrakam' (enemies) masquerading as 'suhrit' (friends). The result of their guidance is a hollow kingdom ('raja-shesha' - only the king remains). The depletion of treasury and army is laid squarely at their feet. It portrays the tragedy of a powerful leader isolated by his own inner circle.
हिंदी टीका
कुम्भकर्ण मंत्रियों को 'सुहृच्चिह्नममित्रकम्' (मित्र के चिह्न वाले शत्रु) कहता है—आस्तीन के साँप। उनकी वजह से लंका 'राजशेषा' रह गई है—प्रजा और सेना मर चुकी है, केवल राजा बचा है। यह एक तीखा व्यंग्य है कि राजा के चापलूसों ने राजा को ही अकेला और निर्धन ('क्षीणकोशः') कर दिया है।
