Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवमुक्तवतो वाक्यं कुम्भकर्णस्य धीमतः ।
प्रत्युवाच ततो वाक्यं प्रहसन् राक्षसाधिपः ॥६-६५-९॥
evamuktavato vākyaṃ kumbhakarṇasya dhīmataḥ |
pratyuvāca tato vākyaṃ prahasan rākṣasādhipaḥ ॥6-65-9॥
Translation
When the wise Kumbhakarna had spoken thus, the Lord of Rakshasas (Ravana) replied, laughing.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बुद्धिमान कुम्भकर्ण के ऐसा कहने पर, राक्षसराज रावण हँसते हुए यह वचन बोला।
English Commentary
Ravana reacts with a laugh ('prahasan'), indicating relief rather than offense. He recognizes the truth in the 'wise' ('dhimatah') Kumbhakarna's words but chooses to focus on the brother's willingness to fight. Ravana's laughter masks his desperation; he is happy that he finally has a champion who sees the reality but fights anyway.

कुम्भकर्ण की खरी-खोटी बातें सुनकर भी रावण नाराज नहीं हुआ, बल्कि 'प्रहसन्' (हँसते हुए) बोला। उसे राहत मिली कि कुम्भकर्ण लड़ने को तैयार है। 'धीमतः' (बुद्धिमान) विशेषण कुम्भकर्ण के लिए प्रयुक्त है, जो यह स्वीकारता है कि उसकी आलोचना सही थी। रावण अब कड़वी बातों को नजरअंदाज कर केवल परिणाम पर ध्यान दे रहा है।
