शतानि सप्त चाष्टौ च विंशत् त्रिंशत् तथैव च ।
संपरिश्वज्य बाहुभ्यां खादन् विपरिधावति ॥६-६७-१००॥
śatāni sapta cāṣṭau ca viṃśat triṃśat tathaiva ca |
saṃpariṣvajya bāhubhyāṃ khādan viparidhāvati ॥6-67-100॥
Translation
Embracing seven hundred, eight hundred, twenty, and thirty monkeys at once with his arms, he ran around devouring them.

वह सात सौ, आठ सौ, बीस और तीस वानरों को एक साथ अपनी भुजाओं में लपेटकर उन्हें खाता हुआ इधर-उधर दौड़ रहा था।
English Commentary
The repetition of these numbers reinforces the continuity and the massive scale of Kumbhakarna's slaughter. The term 'Sampariṣvajya' (clasping/embracing) signifies the strength of his grip from which escape was impossible. This is an epic device used to fully convey the terrifying magnitude of the enemy's power.

संख्याओं का यह दोहराव कुम्भकर्ण के संहार की निरन्तरता और उसकी विशाल क्षमता को पुष्ट करता है। 'सम्परिष्वज्य' (जकड़ लेना) शब्द उसकी पकड़ की मजबूती को दर्शाता है जहाँ से बच निकलना असम्भव था। यह महाकाव्य की वह शैली है जो पाठक को शत्रु की शक्ति की भयावहता का पूर्ण बोध कराती है।
