सर्वान् समभिधावन्तं यथा रुष्टं दिशागजम् ।
मार्गमाणं हरीन् क्रुद्धं राक्षसैः परिवारितम् ॥६-६७-१४१॥
sarvān samabhidhāvantaṃ yathā ruṣṭaṃ diśāgajam |
mārgamāṇaṃ harīn kruddhaṃ rākṣasaiḥ parivāritam ॥6-67-141॥
Translation
He was rushing at everyone like an enraged elephant of the quarters (Diggaja), searching for the monkeys in his fury and surrounded by Rakshasas.

वह क्रोधित दिशा-हस्ती (दिग्गज) के समान सबकी ओर दौड़ रहा था, वानरों को खोज-खोज कर मार रहा था और राक्षसों से घिरा हुआ था।
English Commentary
Comparing Kumbhakarna to a 'Diggaja' (the elephant that supports a quarter of the world) signifies his boundless and destructive power. The word 'Margamanam' (searching/seeking) reveals his violent intent to leave no Vanara alive. He was a storm of destruction that only the brilliance of Shri Rama could pacify.

कुम्भकर्ण की तुलना 'दिग्गज' (दिशाओं को धारण करने वाले हाथी) से करना उसकी शक्ति की मर्यादाहीनता को दर्शाता है। 'मार्गमाणम्' (खोजते हुए) शब्द उसकी हिंसक जिजीविषा को प्रकट करता है कि वह एक भी वानर को जीवित नहीं छोड़ना चाहता। वह विनाश का एक ऐसा तूफान था जिसे केवल श्री राम का तेज ही शांत कर सकता था।
