तं दृष्ट्वा राक्षसश्रेष्ठं प्रदीप्तानलवर्चसम् ।
विस्फारयामास तदा कार्मुकं पुरुषर्षभः ॥६-६७-१४४॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvā rākṣasaśreṣṭhaṃ pradīptānalavarcasam |
visphārayāmāsa tadā kārmukaṃ puruṣarṣabhaḥ ॥6-67-144॥
Translation
Beholding that foremost of Rakshasas who possessed the luster of a blazing fire, the best among men (Shri Rama) then twanged His bow (stretched the bowstring).
हिंदी अनुवाद
प्रज्वलित अग्नि के समान तेजस्वी उस श्रेष्ठ राक्षस को देखकर, पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ श्री राम ने तब अपने धनुष की टंकार की (धनुष को चढ़ाया)।
English Commentary
The twanging of the bow ('Vispharayamaasa') is the final declaration of war. 'Pradiptanala' (blazing fire) reflects Kumbhakarna's fierce energy, but Shri Rama's bow is the cooling force destined to extinguish that fire. This is the meeting point of two supremes (the best Rakshasa and the best Man), from where the end of Adharma begins.

धनुष की टंकार (विस्फारयामास) युद्ध की अंतिम घोषणा है। 'प्रदीप्तानल' (प्रज्वलित अग्नि) कुम्भकर्ण के उग्र तेज को दर्शाता है, किन्तु श्री राम का 'कार्मुक' (धनुष) उस अग्नि को शांत करने वाला वरुण-पाश है। यह दो श्रेष्ठों (राक्षसश्रेष्ठ और पुरुषर्षभ) के बीच के महामिलन का क्षण है, जहाँ से अधर्म का अंत आरम्भ होगा।
