पातयन्निव सर्वेषां हृदयानि वनौकसाम् ।
प्रहस्य विकृतं भीमं स मेघस्तनितोपमम् ॥६-६७-१५९॥
pātayanniva sarveṣāṃ hṛdayāni vanaukasām |
prahasya vikṛtaṃ bhīmaṃ sa meghastanitōpamam ॥6-67-159॥
Translation
As if shattering the hearts of all the Vanaras, he uttered a terrifying and distorted laugh that sounded like the thundering of clouds.

सभी वानरों के हृदयों को मानो विदीर्ण करते हुए, वह बादलों की गर्जना के समान भयंकर और विकृत अट्टहास करने लगा।
English Commentary
Kumbhakarna's laughter functioned as a psychological weapon. Shattering the hearts of the Vanaras implies uprooting their morale. Comparing his voice to the thundering of clouds reinforces his immense scale and ferocity. It is a terrifying scene, akin to the chaotic roar before a cosmic dissolution.

कुम्भकर्ण का अट्टहास एक मनोवैज्ञानिक अस्त्र था। 'हृदयानि पातयन्' का अर्थ है वानरों के मनोबल को जड़ से हिला देना। उसकी आवाज़ की तुलना 'मेघ-स्तनित' (बादलों की गड़गड़ाहट) से करना उसकी विशालता और भीषणता को पुष्ट करता है। यह प्रलय से पूर्व के कोलाहल जैसा डरावना दृश्य है।
