Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तद्वाक्यं हरिराजस्य सत्त्वधैर्यसमन्वितम् ।
श्रुत्वा राक्षसशार्दूलः कुम्भकर्णोऽब्रवीद्वचः ॥६-६७-५८॥
tadvākyaṃ harirājasya sattvadhairyasamanvitam |
śrutvā rākṣasaśārdūlaḥ kumbhakarṇo'bravīdvacaḥ ॥6-67-58॥
Translation
Hearing those words of the monkey-king Sugriva, which were endowed with courage and steadiness, Kumbhakarna—the tiger among Rakshasas—replied.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानरराज सुग्रीव के उन धैर्य और सत्व से भरे वचनों को सुनकर, राक्षसों में सिंह के समान कुम्भकर्ण ने यह बात कही।
English Commentary
Kumbhakarna is somewhat impressed by Sugriva's confidence, but he is not one to concede. Sugriva's words are described as 'Dhairyasamanvitam', reflecting his stability in crisis. Kumbhakarna's reply will now escalate both the ideological and physical conflict between them.

कुम्भकर्ण सुग्रीव के आत्मविश्वास से प्रभावित तो है, किन्तु वह हार मानने वाला नहीं है। सुग्रीव के वचनों को 'धैर्यसमन्वितम्' कहा गया है, जो संकट में भी उनकी स्थिरता को दर्शाता है। कुम्भकर्ण का प्रत्युत्तर अब दोनों के बीच के वैचारिक और शारीरिक संघर्ष को और बढ़ा देगा।
