शतानि सप्त चाष्टौ च सहस्राणि च वानराः ।
प्रकीर्णाः शेरते भूमौ कुम्भकर्णेन पोथिताः ॥६-६७-६॥
śatāni sapta cāṣṭau ca sahasrāṇi ca vānarāḥ |
prakīrṇāḥ śerate bhūmau kumbhakarṇena pothitāḥ ॥6-67-6॥
Translation
Seven hundred, eight hundred, and thousands of Vanaras, crushed by Kumbhakarna, lay scattered and dead across the ground.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कुम्भकर्ण के प्रहारों से कुचले जाकर सात सौ, आठ सौ और हजारों वानर भूमि पर सब ओर मृत पड़े दिखाई देने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse provides a grim tally of the carnage. Sage Valmiki mentions the numbers to emphasize Kumbhakarna's devastating impact. The word 'Pothitah' implies being brutally crushed. This scene is both pathetic and terrifying, demonstrating how a single powerful demon could dismantle an entire army. The sacrifice of the Vanaras is vividly portrayed here.

यह श्लोक युद्ध के भीषण संहार का आँकड़ा प्रस्तुत करता है। कुम्भकर्ण की संहारक क्षमता का वर्णन करने के लिए महर्षि वाल्मीकि ने संख्या का उल्लेख किया है। 'पोथिताः' शब्द का अर्थ है बुरी तरह कुचला जाना। यह दृश्य अत्यंत करुण और भयावह है, जो दर्शाता है कि एक अकेला महाबली असुर पूरी सेना का विनाश करने में सक्षम था। वानरों का बलिदान यहाँ स्पष्ट रूप से चित्रित है।
