ततस्तमादाय तदा स मेने हरीन्द्रमिन्द्रोपममिन्द्रवीर्यः ।
अस्मिन् हते सर्वमिदं हतं स्यात् सराघवं सैन्यमितीन्द्रशत्रुः ॥६-६७-७२॥
tatastamādāya tadā sa mene harīndramindropamamindravīryaḥ |
asmin hate sarvamidaṃ hataṃ syāt sarāghavaṃ sainyamitīndraśatruḥ ॥6-67-72॥
Translation
Holding that King of monkeys who was like Indra, the enemy of Indra (Kumbhakarna), who possessed Indra-like strength, thought: 'If he is killed, this entire army along with Shri Rama will be destroyed.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
इन्द्र के समान पराक्रमी और इन्द्र के उस शत्रु (कुम्भकर्ण) ने इन्द्र के ही समान तेजस्वी वानरराज को पकड़े हुए यह सोचा कि इसके मारे जाने पर श्री रघुनाथ जी सहित यह सारी सेना नष्ट हो जाएगी।
English Commentary
Kumbhakarna thinks like a seasoned strategist here. He recognizes that Sugriva is the axis of the alliance between the monkeys and Shri Rama. The elimination of the King usually signifies the collapse of the army's morale. The repeated use of 'Indra' as a benchmark emphasizes the high status and power of both the captor and the captive. Kumbhakarna believes that slaying Sugriva is the shortcut to ending the entire war.

कुम्भकर्ण यहाँ एक कुशल रणनीतिकार की भाँति विचार कर रहा है। वह जानता है कि सुग्रीव केवल एक योद्धा नहीं, बल्कि पूरी सेना और श्री राम के गठबंधन की धुरी हैं। राजा का अंत सेना के मनोबल का अंत होता है। 'इन्द्र' की उपमा का बार-बार प्रयोग कुम्भकर्ण और सुग्रीव दोनों की उच्च स्थिति और शक्ति को रेखांकित करने के लिए किया गया है। कुम्भकर्ण को विश्वास है कि सुग्रीव का वध युद्ध को समाप्त कर देगा।
