यदज्ञानान्मया तस्य न गृहीतं महात्मनः ।
विभीषणवचो यावत् कुम्भकर्णप्रहसनम् ॥६-६८-२२॥
yadajñānānmayā tasya na gṛhītaṃ mahātmanaḥ |
vibhīṣaṇavaco yāvat kumbhakarṇaprahasanam ॥6-68-22॥
Translation
Due to ignorance, I did not accept the words of that great-souled Vibhishana; (the consequence of which) has gone as far as the destruction of Kumbhakarna.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अज्ञानवश मैंने उस महात्मा विभीषण के वचन को ग्रहण नहीं किया (नहीं माना); जिसका परिणाम कुम्भकर्ण की मृत्यु (प्रहसन/विनाश) तक पहुँचा।
English Commentary
Self-blame. Ravana admits his 'ajnana' (ignorance). He traces the tragedy of Kumbhakarna's death directly back to his rejection of Vibhishana. Calling Vibhishana 'Mahatma' shows a complete reversal in his perception of his exiled brother.
हिंदी टीका
रावण अपनी गलती स्वीकार करता है—'अज्ञानात्' (अज्ञान के कारण)। वह विभीषण को भी 'महात्मनः' कहता है। उसे पछतावा है कि यदि उसने विभीषण की बात मानी होती, तो आज कुम्भकर्ण जीवित होता। यह आत्म-ग्लानि (guilt) उसे भीतर से खा रही है।
