English Commentary
Ravana's reaction is visceral. He collapses ('papata') under the weight of grief ('shoka'). For the first time, the invincible king is rendered helpless by emotional trauma. The grief spreads to the next generation as well, with his sons mourning their uncle, showing Kumbhakarna's importance to the entire royal family.

रावण, जो अपनी कठोरता के लिए जाना जाता था, इस समाचार को सहन नहीं कर सका। 'मुमोह च पपात च' (मूर्छित हुआ और गिर पड़ा)—यह उसकी मानसिक स्थिति के पूर्ण पतन को दर्शाता है। यह केवल एक राजा का दुख नहीं, बल्कि एक भाई का गहरा आघात है। उसके साथ-साथ उसके पुत्र (देवान्तक, नरान्तक) भी अपने पितृव्य (चाचा) की मृत्यु पर रो पड़े।
