रक्षणार्थं कुमाराणां प्रेषयामास संयुगे ।
ते ऽभिवाद्य महात्मानं रावणं रिपुरावणम् ॥६-६९-१७॥
rakṣaṇārthaṃ kumārāṇāṃ preṣayāmāsa saṃyuge |
te 'bhivādya mahātmānaṃ rāvaṇaṃ ripurāvaṇam ॥6-69-17॥

English Commentary
Ravana is a strategist. He knows that the zeal of young princes needs the balance of experienced generals. Thus, he sends Mahodara and others specifically for 'protection'.

रावण एक रणनीतिज्ञ है। वह जानता है कि युवा पुत्रों के जोश के साथ अनुभवी सेनापतियों का होश आवश्यक है। इसलिए वह महोदर आदि को 'रक्षणार्थ' (रक्षा के लिए) भेजता है।
