श्रुत्वा त्रिशिरसो वाक्यं रावणो राक्षसाधिपः ।
पुनर्जातमिवात्मानं मन्यते कालचोदितः ॥६-६९-८॥
śrutvā triśiraso vākyaṃ rāvaṇo rākṣasādhipaḥ |
punarjātamivātmānaṃ manyate kālacoditaḥ ॥6-69-8॥
Translation
Hearing Trishira's words, Ravana, the Lord of Rakshasas, urged by Destiny/Time, considered himself as if born again (revitalized).
हिंदी अनुवाद
त्रिशिरा के वचन सुनकर राक्षसराज रावण, जो काल से प्रेरित था, अपने आप को पुनर्जन्म प्राप्त (पुनर्जीवित) सा मानने लगा।
English Commentary
The son's words breathed new life into Ravana. Valmiki uses the term 'Kalacoditah' (urged by Time/Destiny) to hint that this newfound enthusiasm is merely leading Ravana towards his destruction, as destiny has already sealed his fate.
हिंदी टीका
पुत्र के वचनों ने रावण में नया जीवन फूँक दिया। 'कालचोदितः' (काल से प्रेरित) शब्द वाल्मीकि जी ने यह संकेत देने के लिए प्रयोग किया है कि रावण का यह उत्साह उसके विनाश की ओर ही ले जा रहा है, क्योंकि नियति ने उसका अंत निश्चित कर दिया है।
