Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मत्तानीकं महात्मानं जघान रणमूर्धनि ।
स भव्या गदया भग्नो विशीर्णदशनेक्षणः ॥६-७०-६३॥
mattānīkaṃ mahātmānaṃ jaghāna raṇamūrdhani |
sa bhavyā gadayā bhagno viśīrṇadaśanekṣaṇaḥ ॥6-70-63॥
Translation
At the front of the battle, he slew that massive Mattanika (Mahaparshva) with his own mace. Shattered by that heavy mace, his teeth and eyes were scattered.
हिंदी अनुवाद
युद्ध के अग्रभाग में उन्होंने उस विशालकाय मत्तानीक (महापार्श्व) को उसी की गदा से मार डाला। उस भारी गदा के प्रहार से वह टूट गया, उसके दांत और आँखें बिखर गईं।
English Commentary
Mahaparshva's end was exceedingly grim. Being slain by his own mace was a poetic justice for his deeds. The phrase 'scattered teeth and eyes' describes the overwhelming force of the impact that mutilated his face. It was the fall of another major demonic power on the battlefield. Rishabha's prowess attained its final triumph here.

महापार्श्व का अंत अत्यंत भीषण था। अपनी ही गदा से मारा जाना उसके कर्मों का न्यायपूर्ण फल था। 'विशीर्णदशनेक्षणः' शब्द प्रहार की उस प्रचंडता को बताते हैं जिसने उसके चेहरे को क्षत-विक्षत कर दिया। युद्धभूमि में यह एक और बड़ी राक्षसी शक्ति के पतन का क्षण था। ऋषभ का पराक्रम यहाँ अपनी विजय प्राप्त कर चुका था।
