सौमित्रेश्चापनिर्घोषं श्रुत्वा प्रतिभयं तदा ।
विसिष्मिये महातेजा राक्षसेन्द्रात्मजो बली ॥६-७१-४९॥
saumitreścāpanirghoṣaṃ śrutvā pratibhayaṃ tadā |
visiṣmiye mahātejā rākṣasendrātmajo balī ॥6-71-49॥
Translation
Hearing the terrifying sound of the son of Sumitra's bow at that time, the highly radiant and mighty son of the Lord of Rakshasas was amazed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस समय सुमित्राकुमार के धनुष की भयानक टंकार सुनकर महातेजस्वी और बली राक्षसराजपुत्र (अतिकाय) विस्मित हुआ।
English Commentary
Respect earned. Atikaya is 'visishmiye' (amazed). The quality of the sound tells him that Lakshmana is a formidable archer. It marks the shift from arrogance to alertness.

अतिकाय का विस्मय। उसने उम्मीद नहीं की थी कि कोई मानव ऐसा नाद कर सकता है। लक्ष्मण की शक्ति का आभास उसे पहली ही टंकार में हो गया। एक सच्चा योद्धा शत्रु की शक्ति को पहचान लेता है।
