बालोऽयमिति विज्ञाय न मावज्ञातुमर्हसि ।
बालो वा यदि वा वृद्धो मृत्युं जानीहि संयुगे ॥६-७१-६३॥
bālo'yamiti vijñāya na māvajñātumarhasi |
bālo vā yadi vā vṛddho mṛtyuṃ jānīhi saṃyuge ॥6-71-63॥
Translation
Do not despise/underestimate me thinking 'This is a boy'. Whether boy or old man, know me to be Death in battle.
हिंदी अनुवाद
'यह बालक है'—ऐसा समझकर मेरा अपमान (अवज्ञा) मत करो। चाहे बालक हूँ या वृद्ध, युद्ध में मुझे (अपनी) मृत्यु समझो।
English Commentary
Correcting the misconception. Lakshmana addresses the ageism. He asserts that on the battlefield, he is neither young nor old, but simply 'Mrityu' (Death). This establishes his identity as a warrior beyond mortal definitions of age.

लक्ष्मण 'बालक' वाले ताने का जवाब देते हैं। उम्र मायने नहीं रखती, सामर्थ्य रखती है। वे स्वयं को साक्षात 'मृत्यु' घोषित करते हैं।
