द्रष्टव्यं च पदं तेषां वानराणां निशाचराः ।
प्रदोषे वा ऽर्धरात्रे वा प्रत्यूषे वापि सर्वतः ॥६-७२-१५॥
draṣṭavyaṃ ca padaṃ teṣāṃ vānarāṇāṃ niśācarāḥ |
pradoṣe vā 'rdharātre vā pratyūṣe vāpi sarvataḥ ॥6-72-15॥
Translation
O night-stalkers! Watch every footstep (movement) of those Vanaras—whether it be in the evening, at midnight, or at the break of dawn, everywhere.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे निशाचरों! उन वानरों की हर हरकत (पदम) पर दृष्टि रखो—चाहे सायंकाल हो, आधी रात हो या प्रातःकाल का समय हो।
English Commentary
Ravana commands a round-the-clock watch over the enemy. He fears the Vanaras might exploit the cover of darkness or the stillness of dawn to attack. The word 'Padam' encompasses not just footsteps but the entire strategy and movements of the enemy. Ravana is shifting from direct confrontation to a strategy of defensive waiting.

रावण अपनी सेना को 'चतुर्याम' (चौबीसों घंटे) पहरेदारी का आदेश दे रहा है। उसे भय है कि वानर रात्रि के अंधकार या भोर की शांति का लाभ उठाकर आक्रमण कर सकते हैं। 'पदम्' शब्द का अर्थ केवल कदम नहीं, बल्कि शत्रु की पूरी रणनीति और हलचल से है। रावण अब प्रत्यक्ष युद्ध के स्थान पर शत्रु की प्रतीक्षा करने की नीति अपना रहा है।
