आवासान् राक्षसानां च सर्वेषां गृहगर्धिनाम् ।
हेमचित्रतनुत्राणां स्रग्दामाम्बरधारिणाम् ॥६-७५-१४॥
āvāsān rākṣasānāṃ ca sarveṣāṃ gṛhagardhinām |
hemacitratanutrāṇāṃ sragdāmāmbaradhāriṇām ॥6-75-14॥
Translation
The dwellings of all those Rakshasas, who were attached to their homes, who wore golden body-armor, and who were adorned with garlands and fine clothes, were burned down.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अपने घरों के प्रति आसक्त रहने वाले, स्वर्ण के कवचों से सुसज्जित और मालाओं तथा वस्त्रों को धारण करने वाले उन सभी राक्षसों के निवास स्थान जल गए।
English Commentary
Sage Valmiki comments on the Rakshasas' attachment to their dwellings ('Grihagardhinam'). Obsession and attachment are companions of unrighteousness. Golden armor was the arrogance of their physical security, but the fire melted even that hubris. The mention of garlands and fine clothes reflects their clinging to sensual pleasures, which proved utterly insignificant in the moment of death.

महर्षि वाल्मीकि यहाँ राक्षसों की 'गृह-गर्धिनाम्' (घर के प्रति आसक्ति) वृत्ति पर प्रहार कर रहे हैं। मोह और ममता अधर्म के साथी हैं। स्वर्ण कवच उनकी शारीरिक सुरक्षा का दम्भ था, किन्तु अग्नि ने उस दम्भ को भी गला दिया। मालाओं और सुंदर वस्त्रों का उल्लेख उनके भौतिक सुख-भोग के प्रति लगाव को दर्शाता है, जो मृत्यु के क्षण में अत्यंत तुच्छ सिद्ध हुए।
