त्रस्तानां गच्छतां तूर्णं पुत्रानादाय सर्वतः ।
तेषां शतसहस्राणि तदा लङ्कानिवासिनाम् ॥६-७५-१७॥
trastānāṃ gacchatāṃ tūrṇaṃ putrānādāya sarvataḥ |
teṣāṃ śatasahasrāṇi tadā laṅkānivāsinām ॥6-75-17॥
Translation
Hundreds of thousands of those inhabitants of Lanka, terrified and fleeing quickly in all directions while carrying their sons (were destroyed).
हिंदी अनुवाद
भयभीत होकर अपने पुत्रों को लेकर सब ओर तेजी से भागते हुए लंका के उन निवासियों के सैकड़ों और हजारों (घर और जीवन नष्ट हो गए)।
English Commentary
This describes the human tragedy of war. Even Rakshasas were fathers, and in crisis, they worried for their offspring. The phrase 'hundreds of thousands' signifies the scale of the carnage. Lanka, once considered impregnable, had become a graveyard for its own children. It portrays the ultimate consequence of sin that devours an entire race and its future (sons).

यहाँ युद्ध की मानवीय त्रासदी का वर्णन है। राक्षस भी पिता थे और संकट में उन्हें अपने संतानों की चिंता थी। 'शतानि सहस्राणि' शब्द संहार की व्यापकता को दर्शाते हैं। लंका, जो कभी असुरक्षित नहीं मानी जाती थी, आज अपने ही बच्चों के लिए श्मशान बन गई थी। यह पाप के उस परिणाम का चित्रण है जो पूरी जाति और भविष्य (पुत्रों) को निगल जाता है।
