Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
हेमचन्द्रार्धचन्द्राणि चन्द्रशालोन्नतानि च ।
रत्नचित्रगवाक्षाणि साधिष्ठानानि सर्वशः ॥६-७५-१९॥
hemacandrārdhacandrāṇi candraśālonnatāni ca |
ratnacitragavākṣāṇi sādhiṣṭhānāni sarvaśaḥ ॥6-75-19॥
Translation
All those buildings, decorated with golden crescent and half-moon shapes, possessing lofty balconies and windows inlaid with jewels, were being destroyed along with their foundations.

सोने के चन्द्रमा और अर्धचन्द्र के आकारों से सजे हुए, ऊँची अटारियों वाले और मणियों से जड़े हुए झरोखों वाले वे सभी भवन अपने आधारों सहित (नष्ट हो रहे थे)।
English Commentary
The architectural details of Lanka are meticulously described here. The 'Chandrashala' (topmost room) and 'Gavaksha' (latticed windows) were symbols of its grandeur. The jewel-encrusted surfaces showcase its immense wealth. However, all were being defaced. The word 'Sadhisthanani' (with foundations) suggests the destruction was rooted; the palace of unrighteousness was being uprooted from its very base.

लंका की वास्तुकला का यहाँ सूक्ष्म विवरण है। 'चन्द्रशाला' और 'गवाक्ष' (झरोखे) उसके वैभव के प्रतीक थे। रत्नों का जड़ा होना लंका की असीमित धन-संपदा को दिखाता है। किन्तु ये सब अब विद्रूप हो रहे थे। 'साधिष्ठानानि' (आधार सहित) शब्द यह संकेत देता है कि विनाश जड़ से हो रहा था। अधर्म का महल अपनी नींव सहित उखड़ रहा था।
