Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वज्रिवज्रहतानीव शिखराणि महागिरेः ।
विमानेषु प्रसुप्ताश्च दह्यमाना वराङ्गनाः ॥६-७५-२३॥
vajrivajrahatānīva śikharāṇi mahāgireḥ |
vimāneṣu prasuptāśca dahyamānā varāṅganāḥ ॥6-75-23॥
Translation
They were falling like mountain peaks struck by Indra's thunderbolt. Excellent women who were fast asleep in the palaces were also being consumed by the fire.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे भवन इन्द्र के वज्र से टूटे हुए पर्वत शिखरों के समान गिर रहे थे। महलों में सोई हुई श्रेष्ठ स्त्रियाँ भी अग्नि में जलने लगीं।
English Commentary
This verse depicts the mercilessness and vastness of the destruction. The falling mountain peaks represent the end of Lanka's supremacy. The burning of 'Varanganah' (excellent women) reveals the terrifying horror of war where even those not on the front lines are engulfed by the consequences of unrighteousness. It conveys that when the cup of sin overflows, destruction takes no sides.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ संहार की निर्दयता और व्यापकता का चित्रण है। पर्वत शिखरों का गिरना लंका की श्रेष्ठता के अंत को दर्शाता है। 'वराङ्गनाः' (सुंदर स्त्रियाँ) का जलना युद्ध की उस भयावह विभीषिका को प्रकट करता है जहाँ निर्दोष भी अधर्म के दंड की लपेट में आ जाते हैं। यह श्लोक यह संदेश देता है कि जब पाप का घड़ा भरता है, तो विनाश किसी का भी पक्ष नहीं लेता।
