त्यक्ताभरणसर्वाङ्गा हा हेत्युच्चैर्विचुक्रुशुः ।
तानि निर्दह्यमानानि दूरतः प्रचकाशिरे ॥६-७५-२४॥
tyaktābharaṇasarvāṅgā hā hetyuccaīrvicukruśuḥ |
tāni nirdahyamānāni dūrataḥ pracakāśire ॥6-75-24॥
Translation
Casting off ornaments from all their limbs, those women shrieked loudly, crying 'Alas! Alas!'. Those burning mansions shone from afar—

अपने शरीर के आभूषणों को त्याग कर वे स्त्रियाँ 'हा! हाय!' करती हुई जोर-जोर से चिल्लाने लगीं। वे जलते हुए भवन दूर से ऐसे चमक रहे थे—
English Commentary
Casting off ornaments signifies the ultimate desperation to save one's life. The cries of 'Ha-ha' are the sounds of the end of Lanka's pleasures. The glow of the burning mansions visible from afar was a universal proclamation of Lanka's ruin. The city that once made the world envious with its luster was today illuminated by the very fire of its own destruction.

आभूषणों का त्यागना जीवन बचाने की अंतिम व्याकुलता को दर्शाता है। 'हा-हा' का क्रन्दन लंका के सुखों के अंत की ध्वनि है। जलते हुए भवनों की चमक दूर से दिखाई देना लंका के विनाश की सार्वभौमिक घोषणा थी। जो नगरी कभी अपनी कांति से जगत को ईर्ष्या कराती थी, आज वही नगरी अपने ही विनाश की अग्नि से प्रकाशित थी।
