हिमवच्छिखराणीव दीप्तौषधिवनानि च ।
हर्म्याग्रैर्दह्यमानैश्च ज्वालाप्रज्वलितैरपि ॥६-७५-२५॥
himavacchikharāṇīva dīptauṣadhivanāni ca |
harmyāgrairdahyamānaiśca jvālājvalitaira pi ॥6-75-25॥
Translation
Like the peaks of the Himalayas glowing with forests of luminous herbs, the burning tops of the mansions in Lanka were illuminated by blazing flames.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे हिमालय के शिखर जलती हुई औषधियों वाले वनों से चमकते हैं, वैसे ही लंका के वे जलते हुए महलों के ऊपरी भाग ज्वालाओं से प्रकाशित हो रहे थे।
English Commentary
Sage Valmiki provides a brilliant metaphor here. Luminous herbs glowing on the Himalayas at night are legendary. Likening Lanka's fire to 'luminous herbs' suggests that this destruction was a form of medicinal treatment (Aushadhi), necessary to purge the demonic filth from the world. The sight, while destructive, is presented as grand and divinely ordained.

वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ एक अत्यंत तेजस्वी उपमा दे रहे हैं। हिमालय पर रात में चमकने वाली औषधियाँ प्रसिद्ध हैं। लंका की अग्नि को 'दीप्त औषधि' के समान बताना यह संकेत देता है कि यह विनाश भी एक प्रकार का उपचार (औषधि) था, जो संसार से राक्षसी मल को साफ़ करने के लिए आवश्यक था। यह दृश्य विनाशकारी होते हुए भी अत्यंत विराट और दैवीय है।
