छायासंसक्तसलिलो लोहितोद इवार्णवः ।
सा बभूव मुहूर्तेन हरिभिर्दीपिता पुरी ॥६-७५-२९॥
chāyāsaṃsaktasalilo lohitoda ivārṇavaḥ |
sā babhūva muhūrtena haribhir dīpitā purī ॥6-75-29॥
Translation
Due to the reflection of the fire in the water, the ocean appeared to have red water. That city, set ablaze by the monkeys, became (a mass of fire) in a mere moment.

अग्नि की छाया (प्रतिबिम्ब) जल में पड़ने के कारण समुद्र लाल पानी वाला प्रतीत हो रहा था। वानरों द्वारा जलाई गई वह नगरी एक ही क्षण में (अग्नि का पुंज) बन गई।
English Commentary
The ocean becoming 'Lohitoda' (red-watered) symbolizes both bloodshed and fire. The efficiency of the Vanaras is proven by the word 'Muhurtena' (in a moment), showing how rapidly they engulfed the city. This reflects the tremendous momentum of Shri Rama's forces and the intensity of their retribution. Lanka was no longer a city of gold, but a heap of glowing embers.

समुद्र का 'लोहितोद' (लाल जल वाला) होना रक्तपात और अग्नि दोनों का प्रतीक है। वानरों की सक्रियता 'मुहूर्तेन' (एक मुहूर्त में) शब्द से सिद्ध होती है कि उन्होंने कितनी शीघ्रता से पूरे नगर को चपेट में ले लिया। यह श्री राम की सेना के प्रचंड वेग और उनके प्रतिशोध की तीव्रता को दर्शाता है। लंका अब सोने की नगरी नहीं, बल्कि दहकते अंगारों की ढेरी थी।
