लोकस्यास्य क्षये घोरे प्रदीप्तेव वसुन्धरा ।
नारीजनस्य धूमेन व्याप्तस्योच्चैर्विनेदुषः ॥६-७५-३०॥
lokasyāsya kṣaye ghore pradīpteva vasundharā |
nārījanasya dhūmena vyāptasyoccaīrvineduṣaḥ ॥6-75-30॥
Translation
Like the earth burning at the time of the world's terrible destruction, such was the appearance of Lanka. Women enveloped in smoke were wailing loudly.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस संसार के भयंकर विनाश के समय पृथ्वी जैसे जल उठती है, वैसी ही वह लंका लग रही थी। धुएँ से घिरी हुई स्त्रियाँ जोर-जोर से विलाप कर रही थीं।
English Commentary
The burning of Lanka is compared here to the 'Pralaya' (world-destruction). The effect of smoke hinders both vision and breath, causing extreme mental distress. The wailing of the women ('Vineduh') is the final cry of a civilization that had abandoned Dharma. This verse portrays a depth of destruction where only grief and darkness remain.

यहाँ लंका के दहन की तुलना 'प्रलय' (संसार का विनाश) से की गई है। धुएँ का प्रभाव आँखों और श्वास को तो रोकता ही है, वह मानसिक व्याकुलता का भी कारण बनता है। स्त्रियों का विलाप (विनेदुः) उस सभ्यता की अंतिम चीख है जिसने धर्म का त्याग कर दिया था। यह श्लोक विनाश की उस गहराई को चित्रित करता है जहाँ केवल शोक और अंधकार शेष है।
