Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
गन्धमाल्यमधूत्सेकसम्मोदितमहानिलम् ।
घोरं शूरजनाकीर्णं महाम्बुधरनिस्वनम् ॥६-७५-५७॥
gandhamālyamadhūtsekasallomoditamahānilam |
ghoraṃ śūrajanākīrṇaṃ mahāmbudharanisvanam ॥6-75-57॥
Translation
The great wind was perfumed by the scent of fragrant garlands and the excess of liquor (Madhu). That terrifying army was crowded with heroes and resounded like massive clouds.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सुगन्धित मालाओं और मदिरा (मधु) की गंध से वायु सुवासित हो रही थी। वह भयंकर सेना शूरवीरों से भरी थी और बादलों के समान गम्भीर गर्जना कर रही थी।
English Commentary
The mention of liquor ('Madhu') and garlands reveals the Rakshasa nature of treating war as a festive indulgence. Consuming alcohol provided a synthetic stimulation to their courage. The cloud-like roar ('Mahambudhara-nisvanam') is the voice of their collective ego and power. It depicts an army standing on the thin line between intoxication and true martial zeal.

मदिरा और मालाओं का उल्लेख राक्षसों के उस स्वभाव को दिखाता है जहाँ वे युद्ध को भी एक उत्सव और विलास की भांति लेते थे। 'मधु' का सेवन उनके साहस को कृत्रिम उत्तेजना दे रहा था। बादलों की गर्जना (महाम्बुधर-निस्वनम्) उनके सामूहिक अहंकार और शक्ति का स्वर है। यह एक ऐसी सेना का चित्र है जो नशे और जोश के बीच के पतले धागे पर खड़ी थी।
