जवेनाप्लुत्य च पुनस्तद्बलं रक्षसां महत् ।
अभ्ययात् प्रत्यरिबलं पतङ्गा इव पावकम् ॥६-७५-५९॥
javēnāplutya ca punastadbalaṃ rakṣasāṃ mahat |
abhyayāt pratyaribalaṃ pataṅgā iva pāvakam ॥6-75-59॥
Translation
Leaping with speed, that great Rakshasa army advanced toward the enemy force just as moths rush toward a flame.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वेग से उछलकर राक्षसों की वह विशाल सेना वानर सेना की ओर वैसे ही बढ़ी, जैसे पतंगे अग्नि की ओर जाते हैं।
English Commentary
Sage Valmiki compares the Rakshasas to 'moths' ('Patanga'), which is highly symbolic. A moth incinerates itself in its attraction to light. Due to their 'perverted intellect at the time of destruction,' the Rakshasas were rushing toward the fierce power of Shri Rama (the fire) only to meet their end. This was not true valor but the blindness of their destiny.

वाल्मीकि जी ने यहाँ राक्षसों की तुलना 'पतंगों' (Pataṅgā) से की है, जो अत्यंत सांकेतिक है। पतंगा प्रकाश के आकर्षण में स्वयं को जला लेता है। राक्षस भी अपनी विनाशकाले विपरीत बुद्धि के कारण श्री राम की प्रचंड शक्ति (अग्नि) की ओर अपने अंत के लिए बढ़ रहे थे। यह उनकी वीरता नहीं, बल्कि उनके भाग्य का अंधापन था।
