Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दशनैर्हृतकर्णाश्च मुष्टिनिष्कीर्णमस्तकाः ।
शिलाप्रहारभग्नाङ्गा विचेरुस्तत्र राक्षसाः ॥६-७५-६३॥
daśanaīrhṛtakarṇāśca muṣṭiniṣkīrṇamastakāḥ |
śilāprahārabhabgnāṅgā vicerustatra rākṣasāḥ ॥6-75-63॥
Translation
Rakshasas whose ears had been bitten off by teeth, whose heads were crushed by fists, and whose limbs were broken by the impact of rocks, wandered there (in a wounded state).
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिनके कान वानरों के दांतों से काट लिए गए थे, जिनके मस्तक मुक्कों से चूर्ण हो गए थे और जिनके अंग शिलाओं के प्रहार से टूट गए थे, वे राक्षस वहाँ (घायल अवस्था में) विचर रहे थे।
English Commentary
This describes the Vanaras' natural combat techniques. Biting off ears ('Dashanaih') and crushing heads with fists demonstrates their superhuman strength. The Rakshasas' plight was a strike against their pride. The battlefield was now filled with the wounded and mutilated, evoking the 'Vibhatsa Rasa' (ghastly sentiment).

यहाँ वानरों की नैसर्गिक युद्ध-कला का वर्णन है। 'दशनैः' (दांतों) से कान काटना और मुक्कों से मस्तक फोड़ना उनकी अमानवीय शक्ति को दर्शाता है। राक्षसों की यह दुर्दशा उनके अहंकार पर चोट थी। युद्धभूमि अब घायलों और क्षत-विक्षत शरीरों से भर गई थी, जो वीभत्स रस की उत्पत्ति करती है।
