ततः कुम्भस्तु सुग्रीवं बाहुभ्यां जगृहे तदा ।
गजाविवाहितमदौ निश्वसन्तौ मुहुर्मुहुः ॥६-७६-८१॥
tataḥ kumbhastu sugrīvaṃ bāhubhyāṃ jagṛhe tadā |
gajāvīvāhitamadau niśvasantau muhurmuhuḥ ॥6-76-81॥
Translation
Then Kumbha seized Sugriva with his two arms. Breathing heavily again and again, they both appeared like two elephants in rut.

तब कुम्भ ने सुग्रीव को अपनी दोनों भुजाओं में जकड़ लिया। वे दोनों बार-बार लंबी सांसें लेते हुए मदमस्त हाथियों के समान लग रहे थे।
English Commentary
The wrestling match ('Malla-yuddha') begins. The grip of the arms ('Jagrahe') is a test of both warriors' physical strength. The analogy of 'elephants in rut' depicts their indomitable rage and power. Their heavy breathing ('Nishvasantau') signifies the extreme exertion and the gravity of the combat. This was a primal physical struggle between two sovereigns.

अब मल्ल-युद्ध (कुश्ती) का आरम्भ होता है। भुजाओं की पकड़ (जग्राह) दोनों योद्धाओं के शारीरिक बल का परीक्षण है। 'मदमस्त हाथी' (गजाविव-अहितमदौ) की उपमा उनके अदम्य क्रोध और शक्ति को दर्शाती है। लंबी सांसें लेना (निश्वसन्तौ) उनके द्वारा किए जा रहे अत्यधिक श्रम और युद्ध की गम्भीरता का परिचायक है। यह दो राजाओं का दैहिक संघर्ष था।
