निकुम्भं च हतं श्रुत्वा कुम्भं च विनिपातितम् ।
रावणः परमामर्षी प्रजज्वालानलो यथा ॥६-७८-१॥
nikumbhaṃ ca hataṃ śrutvā kumbhaṃ ca vinipātitam |
rāvaṇaḥ paramāmarṣī prajajvālānalo yathā ॥6-78-1॥
Translation
Hearing that Nikumbha had been killed and Kumbha struck down, Ravana became exceedingly enraged and blazed like a burning fire.

निकुम्भ के मारे जाने और कुम्भ के धराशायी होने का समाचार सुनकर रावण परम क्रोधित हो उठा और प्रज्वलित अग्नि की भाँति जलने लगा।
English Commentary
Kumbha and Nikumbha were the valiant sons of Kumbhakarna. The news of their death was a severe blow to Ravana. His emotional state is compared to a 'blazing fire,' symbolizing the burning desire for revenge mixed with intense grief. At this stage of the war, Ravana has lost his key warriors, and his anger serves as the catalyst for the next phase of the battle. The imagery reflects the internal turmoil of the Rakshasa king as his power structure crumbles.

कुम्भ और निकुम्भ, कुम्भकर्ण के वीर पुत्र थे। उनकी मृत्यु का समाचार रावण के लिए एक भीषण आघात था। यहाँ रावण की मनोदशा का चित्रण 'अनल' (अग्नि) की उपमा से किया गया है, जो उसके भीतर धधकते हुए प्रतिशोध और संताप को दर्शाता है। युद्ध के इस चरण में रावण अपने प्रमुख योद्धाओं को खो चुका है, और उसका क्रोध अब शोक के साथ मिश्रित होकर विनाशकारी रूप ले रहा है। यह श्लोक रावण के विनाश की ओर बढ़ते हुए कदमों की पृष्ठभूमि तैयार करता है।
