Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अद्य रामं वधिष्यामि लक्ष्मणं च निशाचराः ।
शाखामृगं च सुग्रीवं वानरांश्च शरोत्तमैः ॥६-७८-११॥
adya rāmaṃ vadhiṣyāmi lakṣmaṇaṃ ca niśācarāḥ |
śākhāmṛgaṃ ca sugrīvaṃ vānarāṃśca śarottamaiḥ ॥6-78-11॥
Translation
O Night-roamers! Today I shall kill Shri Rama, Lakshmana, the Vanara Sugriva, and other monkeys with my excellent arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे निशाचरों! आज मैं अपने उत्तम बाणों से श्री राम, लक्ष्मण, वानर सुग्रीव और अन्य वानरों का वध कर डालूँगा।
English Commentary
This implies typical demonic boasting. Makaraksha lists his targets, disparagingly referring to Sugriva as a shakhamriga (branch-animal). His confidence in his 'excellent arrows' blinds him to the divine prowess of his opponents. This declarations serves to hype himself and his troops, but to the reader, it highlights the tragic hubris of the antagonist.

यह श्लोक आसुरी स्वभाव की 'विकत्थन' (आत्म-प्रशंसा) वृत्ति को दर्शाता है। मकराक्ष सुग्रीव को 'शाखामृग' (पेड़ की डालियों पर रहने वाला जानवर) कहकर तिरस्कृत करता है। उसे अपनी शस्त्र-विद्या और 'शरोत्तमैः' (श्रेष्ठ बाणों) पर अत्यधिक अभिमान है। वह विजय को निश्चित मानकर चल रहा है, जो उसके अविवेक का परिचायक है।
