ते कामरूपिणः सर्वे दंष्ट्रिणः पिङ्गलेक्षणाः ।
मातङ्गा इव नर्दन्तो ध्वस्तकेशा भयानकाः ॥६-७८-१४॥
te kāmarūpiṇaḥ sarve daṃṣṭriṇaḥ piṅgalekṣaṇāḥ |
mātaṅgā iva nardanto dhvastakeśā bhayānakāḥ ॥6-78-14॥
Translation
All of them were capable of changing form at will, had fangs and tawny eyes, roared like elephants, had disheveled hair, and were terrifying.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे सभी इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाले, बड़ी दाढ़ों वाले, पीली आँखों वाले, बिखरे बालों वाले और हाथी के समान चिंघाड़ने वाले भयानक राक्षस थे।
English Commentary
Valmiki provides a graphic description of the demonic army to evoke the sentiment of terror (Raudra/Bhayanaka rasa). Their physical traits—tawny eyes, fangs, disheveled hair—along with their supernatural ability to shape-shift (kamarupinah), make them formidable foes. Comparing their roars to elephants emphasizes their raw power and the deafening sound of their march.

यहाँ वाल्मीकि जी ने राक्षसी सेना का वीभत्स और भयानक चित्रण किया है। 'कामरूपिणः' उनकी मायावी शक्ति को बताता है। उनकी शारीरिक विशेषताएं—बिखरे बाल, पीली आँखें, बाहर निकली दाढ़ें—शत्रु के मन में भय उत्पन्न करने के लिए पर्याप्त थीं। हाथियों जैसी गर्जना उनके आक्रामक स्वभाव और शारीरिक बल को प्रदर्शित करती है।
