शङ्खभेरीसहस्राणामाहतानां समन्ततः ।
क्ष्वेलितास्फोटितानां च ततः शब्दो महानभूत् ॥६-७८-१६॥
śaṅkhabherīsahasrāṇāmāhatānāṃ samantataḥ |
kṣvelitāsphoṭitānāṃ ca tataḥ śabdo mahānabhūt ॥6-78-16॥
Translation
Then a great noise arose from thousands of conches and drums being beaten all around, as well as from war-cries and the slapping of arms.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तभी चारों ओर बजाये जाने वाले हजारों शंखों और नगाड़ों का, तथा सिंहनाद और भुजाओं को ठोकने का महान शब्द गूंज उठा।
English Commentary
The auditory landscape of ancient warfare is vividly captured here. The cacophony of thousands of conches (shankha) and drums (bheri), mixed with leonine roars (kshvelita) and the slapping of biceps (aashphotita), creates an atmosphere of intimidation and aggression. This ritualistic noise was meant to psyche out the enemy and adrenaline-charge the own troops.

यह श्लोक युद्ध के श्रव्य वातावरण (साउंडस्केप) का निर्माण करता है। शंख और भेरी (नगाड़े) युद्धघोष के वाद्य हैं। 'क्ष्वेलित' (सिंहनाद) और 'आस्फोटित' (भुजाओं को ठोकना/ताल ठोकना) योद्धाओं द्वारा चुनौती देने के पारंपरिक तरीके हैं। यह शोर शत्रु को भयभीत करने और अपनी सेना में जोश भरने के लिए किया जाता था।
