अथ तान् राक्षसान् सर्वान् मकराक्षो ऽब्रवीदिदम् ।
यूयं सर्वे प्रयुद्ध्यध्वं पुरस्तान्मम राक्षसाः ॥६-७८-९॥
atha tān rākṣasān sarvān makarākṣo'bravīdidam |
yūyaṃ sarve prayuddhyadhvaṃ purastānmama rākṣasāḥ ॥6-78-9॥
Translation
Then Makaraksha spoke thus to all those Rakshasas: 'O Rakshasas, you all fight in front of me.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर मकराक्ष ने उन सभी राक्षसों से यह कहा—'हे राक्षसों! तुम सब मेरे आगे चलकर युद्ध करो।'
English Commentary
Assuming command, Makaraksha instructs his troops to form the vanguard. By ordering them to fight in front of him, he sets up a formation where the infantry engages the enemy first, allowing him, the primary warrior (maharathi), to assess the field and strike strategically. It also serves to boost the morale of the troops by actively directing them.

सेनानायक के रूप में मकराक्ष अपनी व्यूह-रचना कर रहा है। वह सैनिकों को 'पुरस्तात्' (आगे) रहने का निर्देश देता है। यह एक आक्रामक रणनीति है जहाँ पैदल सेना पहले शत्रु के वेग को रोकती है या आक्रमण करती है, और मुख्य महारथी पीछे से उनका संहार करता है। यह उसके अधिकार और नेतृत्व का प्रदर्शन है।
