यत्तदा दण्डकारण्ये पितरं हतवान् मम ।
मदग्रतः स्वकर्मस्थं दृष्ट्वा रोषो ऽभिवर्धते ॥६-७९-१८॥
yattadā daṇḍakāraṇye pitaraṃ hatavān mama |
madagrataḥ svakarmasthaṃ dṛṣṭvā roṣo 'bhivardhate ॥6-79-18॥
Translation
Since you killed my father in the Dandaka forest, my rage increases upon seeing you before me, now facing the consequences of your deeds.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुमने उस समय दण्डकारण्य में मेरे पिता का वध किया था। आज तुम्हें अपने सामने अपने कर्मों के फल हेतु खड़ा देख मेरा क्रोध बढ़ रहा है।
English Commentary
Makaraksha references the pivotal event in the Dandaka forest that shaped his life. He perceives Shri Rama as being brought there by His own past actions ('Sva-karmastham'), which is a profound misunderstanding; the Lord is present as the instrument of cosmic justice. This desire for vengeance blinds his judgment.

मकराक्ष यहाँ दण्डकारण्य की उस घटना का उल्लेख करता है जो उसके जीवन का सबसे बड़ा शोक था। वह श्री राम के वर्तमान स्वरूप को 'स्व-कर्मस्थम्' (अपने कर्मों के कारण यहाँ उपस्थित) मानता है, जो उसकी अज्ञानता है। वास्तव में श्री राम तो धर्म की रक्षा हेतु वहाँ उपस्थित थे। प्रतिशोध की यह भावना ही उसे विवेकहीन बना रही है।
