वृक्षशूलनिपातैश्च शिलापरिघपातनैः ।
अन्योन्यं मर्दयन्ति स्म तदा कपिनिशाचराः ॥६-७९-३॥
vṛkṣaśūlanipātaiśca śilāparighapātanaiḥ |
anyonyaṃ mardayanti sma tadā kapiniśācarāḥ ॥6-79-3॥
Translation
At that time, the monkeys and the night-stalkers began to crush one another by hurling trees, spears, rocks, and iron clubs.

उस समय वे वानर और निशाचर वृक्षों और शूलों के प्रहार से तथा शिलाओं और परिघों को फेंककर एक-दूसरे को कुचलने लगे।
English Commentary
The verse depicts the direct collision between the natural weapons of the Vanaras (trees and rocks) and the forged weapons of the Rakshasas (spears and iron clubs). The word 'Mardayanti' (crushing/churning) illustrates the brutal objective of the combatants: the total annihilation of the opponent. It reflects a primitive yet deadly fusion of wrestling and armed warfare.

यहाँ वानरों के नैसर्गिक शस्त्रों (वृक्ष और शिला) और राक्षसों के कृत्रिम शस्त्रों (शूल और परिघ) के बीच का प्रत्यक्ष संघर्ष दिखाई देता है। 'मदर्यन्ति' (मथ डालना या कुचलना) शब्द युद्ध की क्रूरता को दर्शाता है जहाँ योद्धाओं का उद्देश्य केवल चोट पहुँचाना नहीं, बल्कि शत्रु का समूल नाश करना है। यह मल्ल-युद्ध और शस्त्र-युद्ध का एक भीषण समन्वय है।
