स च्छिन्नो नैकाधा शूलो दिव्यहाटकमण्डितः ।
व्यशीर्यत महोल्केव रामबाणार्दितो भुवि ॥६-७९-४२॥
sa cchinno naikadhā śūlo divyahāṭakamaṇḍitaḥ |
vyaśīryata mahōlkeva rāmabāṇārdito bhuvi ॥6-79-42॥
Translation
That trident, adorned with divine gold, was shattered into many pieces and, struck by Shri Rama's arrows, fell scattered upon the earth like a great meteor.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दिव्य सुवर्ण से सजा हुआ वह शूल कई टुकड़ों में कट गया और श्री राम के बाणों से आहत होकर किसी महान उल्कापिंड के समान पृथ्वी पर बिखर गया।
English Commentary
The shattering of the trident was the shattering of Makaraksha's final hope. The analogy to a 'great meteor' depicts the violent yet futile nature of its fall. Despite being gold-encrusted ('Hataka-manditah'), it proved to be no more than a toy before the arrows of Truth. This depicts the defeat of material ego by spiritual radiance.

शूल का टूटना मकराक्ष की अंतिम आशा का टूटना था। 'महोल्केव' (महान उल्का की भांति) की उपमा उसके पतन की भयंकरता और उसकी व्यर्थता को दर्शाती है। सुवर्ण से मढ़ा हुआ (हाटकमण्डितः) होने के बावजूद वह सत्य के बाणों के सामने मिट्टी के खिलौने जैसा सिद्ध हुआ। यह भौतिक अहंकार के आध्यात्मिक तेज के सामने पराजित होने का दृश्य है।
