इमौ ताविति सञ्चिन्त्य सज्यं कृत्वा च कार्मुकम् ।
सन्ततानेषुधाराभिः पर्जन्य इव वृष्टिमान् ॥६-८०-२१॥
imau tāviti sañcintya sajyaṃ kṛtvā ca kārmukam |
santatāneṣudhārābhiḥ parjanya iva vṛṣṭimān ॥6-80-21॥
Translation
Thinking 'These are the two,' and stringing his bow, he stretched out streams of arrows upon them just as a rain-cloud pours down rain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
'ये वही दोनों हैं'—ऐसा विचार करके और अपने धनुष पर प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाकर, उसने उन पर बाणों की धाराओं की ऐसी वर्षा की जैसे बादल जल की वर्षा करता है।
English Commentary
Identifying his targets, Indrajit attacked immediately. The metaphor 'like a rain-cloud' illustrates the density and continuity of the arrows. Just as it is hard to escape rain, it was extremely difficult for Shri Rama and Lakshmana to evade arrows coming from an unseen direction. This violated the rules of righteous warfare (Dharmayuddha) as the attacker was invisible.

लक्ष्य की पहचान करते ही इन्द्रजीत ने आक्रमण कर दिया। 'पर्जन्य इव' (बादल के समान) उपमा बाणों की सघनता और निरंतरता को दर्शाती है। जैसे वर्षा से बचना कठिन होता है, वैसे ही अदृश्य दिशा से आते हुए उन बाणों से बचना श्री राम और लक्ष्मण के लिए अत्यंत कठिन था। यह धर्मयुद्ध के नियमों के विरुद्ध था, क्योंकि प्रहार करने वाला दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था।
