Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नास्य वेद गतिं कश्चिन्न च रूपं धनुः शरान् ।
न चान्यद्विदितं किञ्चित् सूर्यस्येवाभ्रसम्प्लवे ॥६-८०-३५॥
nāsya veda gatiṃ kaścinna ca rūpaṃ dhanuḥ śarān |
na cānyadviditaṃ kiñcit sūryasyevābhrasamplave ॥6-80-35॥
Translation
Like the sun hidden in a mass of clouds, no one knew his movement, nor his form, bow, or arrows. Nothing else about him could be ascertained.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बादलों के समूह में छिपे सूर्य की भांति, न तो कोई उसकी गति जानता था, न रूप, न धनुष और न बाणों को। उसके विषय में और भी कुछ ज्ञात नहीं हो रहा था।
English Commentary
Indrajit's concealment was absolute. The metaphor used is 'sun in the clouds'—the effect (heat/light) is felt, but the source is invisible. The Vanara army and Shri Rama-Lakshmana were completely clueless about the mechanics of the attack. This ignorance was the greatest fear. In war, not knowing the enemy's position is inviting death.
हिंदी टीका
इन्द्रजीत का छिपाव पूर्ण था। उपमा 'बादलों में सूर्य' की दी गई है—प्रभाव (धूप/ताप) तो है पर स्रोत नहीं दिखता। वानर सेना और श्री राम-लक्ष्मण पूरी तरह से अनभिज्ञ (clueless) थे कि हमला कैसे हो रहा है। यह अज्ञान (न जानना) ही सबसे बड़ा भय था। युद्ध में शत्रु की स्थिति न पता होना मृत्यु को निमंत्रण देने जैसा है।
