Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेन विद्धाश्च हरयो निहताश्च गतासवः ।
बभूवुः शतशस्तत्र पतिता धरणीतले ॥६-८०-३६॥
tena viddhāśca harayo nihatāśca gatāsavaḥ |
babhūvuḥ śataśastatra patitā dharaṇītale ॥6-80-36॥
Translation
Pierced and killed by him, hundreds of monkeys fell dead to the ground there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस (इन्द्रजीत) के द्वारा बींधे गए और मारे गए सैकड़ों वानर प्राण रहित होकर वहाँ पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े।
English Commentary
Now the damage extended to the Vanara army. Indrajit targeted not just the heroes but the troops as well. The death of hundreds of monkeys spread panic and despair. This scene sets the background for stoking Lakshmana's rage. Watching innocent troops being slaughtered by an invisible enemy is unbearable for any commander.

अब क्षति का विस्तार वानर सेना तक पहुँच गया। इन्द्रजीत ने केवल नायकों को ही नहीं, सेना को भी निशाना बनाया। सैकड़ों वानरों की मृत्यु ने सेना में भगदड़ और निराशा फैला दी। यह दृश्य लक्ष्मण के क्रोध को भड़काने के लिए पृष्ठभूमि तैयार करता है। एक अदृश्य शत्रु द्वारा निर्दोष सेना का संहार देखना किसी भी सेनापति के लिए असहनीय होता है।
