Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तमिन्द्रजितमप्राप्य रथस्थं सहसारथिम् ।
विवेशधरणीं भित्त्वा सा शिला व्यर्थमुद्यता ॥६-८२-११॥
tamindrajitamaprāpya rathasthaṃ sahasārathim |
viveśadharaṇīṃ bhittvā sā śilā vyarthamudyatā ॥6-82-11॥
Translation
Failing to reach Indrajit and the charioteer on the chariot, that rock, aimed in vain, entered the earth, tearing it open.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह शिला रथ पर स्थित इन्द्रजित और सारथी तक नहीं पहुँच सकी और व्यर्थ होकर पृथ्वी को फाड़ती हुई भीतर समा गई।
English Commentary
Although Shri Hanuman's strike was 'vyartha' (futile in terms of the target), its power was so immense that it entered deep into the earth, 'tearing it open.' This testifies to the tremendous force exerted by Hanuman. In war, even the best efforts sometimes fail due to circumstances. This verse also hints that Indrajit's end was yet to come and his allotted time had not yet expired.
हिंदी टीका
हनुमान जी का प्रहार यद्यपि 'व्यर्थ' (लक्ष्य से चूका हुआ) रहा, किन्तु उसकी शक्ति इतनी अधिक थी कि वह 'धरणीं भित्त्वा' (पृथ्वी को भेदकर) पाताल तक चली गई। यह हनुमान जी के प्रचंड वेग का प्रमाण है। युद्ध में कभी-कभी श्रेष्ठ प्रयास भी परिस्थिति के कारण सफल नहीं होते। यह श्लोक यह भी संकेत देता है कि इन्द्रजित का अंत अभी शेष था और उसकी आयु अभी समाप्त नहीं हुई थी।
