अथ चेत् सत्यवचनं धर्मः किल परन्तप ।
अनृतस्त्वय्यकरुणः किं न बद्धस्त्वया पिता ॥६-८३-२८॥
atha cet satyavacanaṃ dharmaḥ kila parantapa |
anṛtastvayyakaruṇaḥ kiṃ na baddhastvayā pitā ॥6-83-28॥
Translation
O scorcher of foes! If 'Truthful Speech' is indeed Dharma, then why did You not imprison Your father who was merciless and untruthful toward You?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले! यदि 'सत्य वचन' ही धर्म है, तो आपके प्रति निर्दयी और असत्य होने वाले अपने पिता को आपने बंदी क्यों नहीं बनाया?
English Commentary
Shri Lakshmana reopens the old wounds of Ayodhya. He questions Dasharatha's command that led to Shri Rama's exile. This argument strikes at the very roots of Shri Rama's devotion to His father's word, intended to provoke Him into changing His current passive state.
हिंदी टीका
लक्ष्मण जी यहाँ अयोध्या के उन पुराने घावों को कुरेद रहे हैं। वे दशरथ जी के उस वचन पर प्रश्न उठा रहे हैं जिसके कारण श्री राम को वन आना पड़ा। यह तर्क श्री राम के 'पितृ-भक्ति' वाले धर्म की जड़ों पर प्रहार है, ताकि वे अपनी वर्तमान स्थिति को बदलने के लिए प्रेरित हों।
