Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अधर्मसंश्रितो धर्मो विनाशयति राघव ।
सर्वमेतद्यथाकामं काकुत्स्थ कुरुते नरः ॥६-८३-३०॥
adharmasaṃśrito dharmo vināśayati rāghava |
sarvametadyathākāmaṃ kākutstha kurute naraḥ ॥6-83-30॥
Translation
O scion of Raghu! Sometimes Dharma resting on Adharma causes destruction. O scion of Kakutstha! A man does everything according to his own will.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राघव! कभी-कभी अधर्म का सहारा लेकर किया गया धर्म ही विनाश का कारण बनता है। हे ककुत्स्थ! मनुष्य अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार ही सब कुछ करता है।
English Commentary
Shri Lakshmana speaks of the primacy of 'Will' (Kama). He argues that ultimately a man does what he desires, and Dharma is often just a facade. This is an attempt to incite Shri Rama to act independently and annihilate Ravana without reservation.
हिंदी टीका
लक्ष्मण जी यहाँ 'इच्छा' (काम) की प्रधानता की बात कर रहे हैं। वे कह रहे हैं कि अंततः मनुष्य वही करता है जो वह चाहता है, धर्म तो केवल एक आवरण है। यह श्री राम को स्वतंत्र होकर निर्णय लेने और रावण का सर्वनाश करने के लिए उकसाने का प्रयास है।
