Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
त्वयि प्रव्रजिते वीर गुरोश्च वचने स्थिते ।
रक्षसा ऽपहृता भार्या प्राणैः प्रियतरा तव ॥६-८३-४१॥
tvayi pravrajite vīra gurośca vacane sthite |
rakṣasā 'pahṛtā bhāryā prāṇaiḥ priyatarā tava ॥6-83-41॥
Translation
O Hero! While You were wandering in the forest, remaining firm in the words of Your elder (father), that Rakshasa abducted Your wife who is dearer to You than life.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वीर! जब आप गुरु (पिता) के वचनों का पालन करते हुए वन में विचर रहे थे, तभी उस राक्षस ने आपकी प्राणों से भी प्रिय पत्नी का अपहरण कर लिया।
English Commentary
Shri Lakshmana strikes directly at the wound that broke Shri Rama. He highlights the cruel correlation between 'Dharma' (the father's word) and its 'fruit' (Sita's abduction). He wants Shri Rama to realize that the wicked have exploited His nobility, thus making war the only remaining alternative.

लक्ष्मण जी यहाँ सीधे उस चोट पर प्रहार कर रहे हैं जिसने श्री राम को तोड़ा है। वे 'धर्म' (पिता के वचन) और उसके 'फल' (सीता का अपहरण) के बीच का क्रूर सम्बन्ध दिखा रहे हैं। वे श्री राम को यह अनुभव कराना चाहते हैं कि उनकी सज्जनता का लाभ दुष्टों ने उठाया है, अतः अब युद्ध ही एकमात्र विकल्प है।
