हतामिन्द्रजिता सीतामिह श्रुत्वैव राघवः ।
हनुमद्वचनात् सौम्य ततो मोहमुपागतः ॥६-८४-७॥
hatāmindrajitā sītāmiha śrutvāiva rāghavaḥ |
hanumadvacanāt saumya tato mohamupāgataḥ ॥6-84-7॥
Translation
O gentle Vibhishana! Having heard from the words of Hanuman that Sita has been killed by Indrajit, the scion of Raghu (Shri Rama) has fallen into this swoon.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सौम्य विभीषण! हनुमान जी के मुख से यह सुनकर कि इन्द्रजित ने सीता का वध कर दिया है, श्री रघुनाथ जी इस मूर्च्छा को प्राप्त हुए हैं।
English Commentary
Shri Lakshmana identifies the root cause of the distress. Coming from a truthful and reliable warrior like Hanuman, the report of witnessing Sita's slaughter was like a thunderbolt for Shri Rama. The phrase 'Hanumadvacanat' implies that the source of information was so credible that there remained no room for doubt. Indrajit's psychological triumph momentarily paralyzed Shri Rama's entire resolve and prowess.

लक्ष्मण जी यहाँ दुःख के मूल कारण को स्पष्ट करते हैं। हनुमान जी जैसे सत्यवादी और विश्वसनीय योद्धा का यह कहना कि उन्होंने स्वयं सीता जी का वध होते देखा है, श्री राम के लिए वज्रपात के समान था। 'हनुमद्वचनात्' (हनुमान के वचनों से) शब्द यह बताते हैं कि सूचना का स्रोत इतना पुख्ता था कि उस पर संदेह करने का कोई स्थान नहीं बचा था। इन्द्रजित की इस मनोवैज्ञानिक विजय ने श्री राम के सम्पूर्ण पुरुषार्थ को क्षण भर के लिए स्तब्ध कर दिया।
