इहोपहारं भूतानां बलवान् रावणात्मजः ।
उपहृत्य ततः पश्चात् सङ्ग्राममभिवर्तते ॥६-८७-४॥
ihopahāraṃ bhūtānāṃ balavān rāvaṇātmajaḥ |
upahṛtya tataḥ paścāt saṅgrāmamabhivartate ॥6-87-4॥
Translation
(Vibhishana said) Having offered oblations to the spirits here, the mighty son of Ravana then proceeds to the battlefield.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(विभीषण ने कहा) यहाँ भूतों (प्रेतात्माओं) को बलि समर्पित करके, वह बलवान रावणपुत्र (इन्द्रजीत) तत्पश्चात युद्ध के लिए प्रस्थान करता है।
English Commentary
Vibhishana is explaining Indrajit's Modus Operandi. The source of Indrajit's power was his personal valor combined with this Tamasic ritual. 'Upahara' here means sacrifice or offering. This verse clarifies that Indrajit used to appease invisible spirits to gain their assistance, which was contrary to the principles of righteous warfare.

विभीषण इन्द्रजीत की कार्यप्रणाली समझा रहे हैं। इन्द्रजीत की शक्ति का स्रोत उसकी निजी वीरता के साथ-साथ यह तामसिक अनुष्ठान भी था। 'उपहार' का अर्थ यहाँ बलि या भोग है। यह श्लोक स्पष्ट करता है कि इन्द्रजीत अदृश्य शक्तियों (भूतों) को संतुष्ट करके उनसे सहायता प्राप्त करता था, जो धर्मयुद्ध के सिद्धांतों के विपरीत था।
