Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तथेत्युक्त्वा महातेजाः सौमित्रिर्मित्रनन्दनः ।
बभूवावस्थितस्तत्र चित्रं विस्फारयन् धनुः ॥६-८७-७॥
tathetyuktvā mahātejāḥ saumitrirmitranandanaḥ |
babhūvāvasthitastatra citraṃ visphārayan dhanuḥ ॥6-87-7॥
Translation
Saying 'So be it,' the highly radiant son of Sumitra, who delights his friends, stood there twanging his wonderful bow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
'तथास्तु' (ऐसा ही हो) कहकर, मित्रों को आनन्दित करने वाले महातेजस्वी सुमित्रानन्दन (लक्ष्मण) अद्भुत धनुष को टंकारते हुए वहाँ स्थित हो गए।
English Commentary
The epithet 'mitranandana' (delighter of friends) for Lakshmana is apt here, as he is about to dispel the fears of Vibhishana and the monkeys. Twanging the bow was a challenge. Lakshmana did not attack stealthily; he announced his presence. This is the code of a warrior (Kshatriya Dharma)—alerting the enemy that his end is near.

लक्ष्मण का 'मित्रनन्दन' विशेषण यहाँ उपयुक्त है, क्योंकि वे विभीषण और वानरों के भय को दूर करने वाले हैं। धनुष की टंकार (विस्फारयन्) एक चुनौती थी। लक्ष्मण ने चुपके से हमला नहीं किया, बल्कि अपनी उपस्थिति की घोषणा की। यह क्षत्रिय धर्म है—शत्रु को सावधान करना कि उसका काल आ गया है।
